Innovation Maturity Level
Also known as: IML, Maturity Level
One of the ten stages of the Healthcare Innovation Cycle, from Need (IML 1) to Standard of Care (IML 10).
Full Definition
The ten Innovation Maturity Levels (IMLs) are: 1 Need, 2 Idea, 3 Proof of Concept, 4 Proof of Feasibility, 5 Proof of Value, 6 Initial Clinical Trials, 7 Validation of Solution, 8 Approval & Launch, 9 Clinical Use, and 10 Standard of Care. The levels are based on Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and map to them one to one, with two differences. IML 1 is the clinical need rather than basic science, and IML 10, Standard of Care, extends beyond the TRL scale.
Each IML has its own Deliverables in each of the four domains. In GAITS, selecting a maturity level name on the carousel opens a view that lists every Deliverable at that level.
A team at IML 4, Proof of Feasibility, has shown that its prototype works in a controlled setting. Before it moves to IML 5, it checks that its Clinical/Workflow, Market/Business, and Regulatory Deliverables at IML 4 are complete enough to move forward.
