H-BMC Tiers

Also known as: BMC Tiers, Canvas Layers

The five organizational layers of the H-BMC: Value Foundation, Stakeholder, Economic Model, Operations, and Financial.

Full Definition

The five tiers represent a natural working sequence in which later blocks depend on assumptions established in earlier ones. Value Foundation establishes the core value proposition. Stakeholder maps users, buyers, and influencers. Economic Model quantifies value and sizes the market. Operations defines how the model is delivered. Financial synthesizes everything into a financial case. The tiers are meant to be worked iteratively — teams return to earlier blocks as new evidence changes their understanding.
Example
A team discovers through Economic Buyer interviews that their transaction model assumption was wrong. They return to Block 8 (Transaction Model) and Block 14 (Revenue Stream) to revise their model before continuing to Operations and Financial blocks.
